CHURCHES (English-language services unless otherwise noted)

* Community Church of Taichung (Morrison Academy auditorium; 136-1, Shui Nan Rd.; Pastor Chuck Johnston 292-2149) From December 3 on, there will be an Advent candle lighting each 10 a.m. Sunday service. On Sunday, December 10, all are welcome to view 'The Promise' movie, shown in Morrison Academy's auditorium at 7 p.m. On December 24 at 10 a.m., there will be a Christmas Praise Service with plenty of singing and other special programs.

* Chien-hsing Presbyterian Church (375, Chien Hsing Rd.; Tel. Glenn Kennedy 238-7553) On Friday, December 22, there will be Christmas Chinese/English Christmas caroling around 7 p.m. On Sunday, December 24, there will be a combined English/Chinese morning worship service at 10 a.m. followed by a meal and afternoon activities.

* Grace International Church (79, Shuangshih Rd., Sec. 1; tel. Tim Watson 422-3131; 298-4811, ext. 251 for Pastor Tu's secretary Annie Liu) On December 16 at 2 p.m., there will be a Chinese-language Christmas celebration for young people. At 3 p.m. on December 20, there will be a children's Christmas performance. On the evening of December 24, starting at 7 p.m., there will two Christmas Eve services in Chinese.

* Hsi-tun Catholic Church (240, Chinghai Rd., Sec. 2; Tel. Father John 252-8547) There will be a Christmas Mass on December 24 in English at 5 p.m. and in Taiwanese at 8 p.m.

* Orthodox Mission in Taiwan (21, Yi Chang Rd.; Tel. Timothy Beach 275-3922) There will be a Christmas Liturgy. For specific information about time and date, please contact Timothy Beach.

* St. James (23, Wu Chuan W. Rd., Sec. 1; tel. Rev. Peter D'Alesandre, ext. 131, Rev. Charles Chen 372-5392) An English Christmas Eucharist Service will take place on December 25 at 9:30 p.m.

* Jesus Evangelical Covenant Church (424, Chungshan Rd., Fengyuan City, Taichung County; tel. Don Dwight 422-0834) For specific times/dates for planned Christmas services and a party, call Mr. Dwight.

* Tan Dz Bible Baptist Church (234, Kuang Yang Rd., Tantzu hsiang, Taichung county; Tel. Marc Heckman 560-5188) There will be an English Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 6 p.m.

* Tunghai University Luce Chapel (181, Taichung Harbor Rd., sec. 3; Tel. Chaplain Lee's Office 359-0226) In a yearly tradition, there will be three Christmas Eve service at the university's landmark Luce Chapel, on December 24 at 8 and 10 p.m. and 12 midnight. The services are mostly in Chinese but are also popular with foreigners living/working in the Tunghai area.
