Shih's Bagel won a reputation quite some time ago in the Taiwan National University WenZhou Street area. Now the chain has opened a second location on YongKang Street. Although the store space is tiny (5 pings) the owner has made it into a cozy, diner-like establishment. The portions here are generous, with each bagel weighing 120 grams on average. Specialty bagels are made without butter, eggs or milk, but they're still quite tasty. --By Josie Wu, translated by Ann Lee
A. Shih's Bagel offers 12 bagel varieties daily. Customers can pick what they want out of the woven baskets and then help themselves to anything they want. Popular choices include Cheese (NT$55) and Blueberry (NT$45). Newer flavors include Earl Grey Black Tea, Italian Spice, and Eggs.
B. The Mexican Bagel (NT$70) is vegetarian-friendly. After being cut in half and smothered with avocado pieces and cheese, the bagel is lightly toasted, which gives it an irresistible "melt in your month" texture.
