Many people go to Jiu Fen for tea. Thus, many of the teahouses
there are decorated in gaudy styles to attract tourists. However,
Miner¡¦s Tea House is an exception, with a more
modest, down-to-earth feeling. In addition, its perch on top
of a hill offers vast, beautiful views that includes the distant
ocean. On a good day, you can see several local ports. The
night views are also spectacular.
The owner is a native of Jiu Fen and often tells interesting
stories about the history of the area. He is also very willing
to teach customers the fine art of brewing Chinese tea, so
don¡¦t be afraid to ask. The prices here are
very reasonable, which helps this teahouse attract a large
local clientele. The log tables and chairs exude a very rustic
Taiwanese charm. A wide variety of Chinese teas are available,
including PuErh from mainland China and TieKuanYin. Although
all of the teas are of very high quality, most customers only
end up spending about NT$200 per person.--By Ken Lin
