At a cost of NT$1.1 billion, this sports center, touted as
Taipei's first, officially opened on February 1. Comprised
of 14 stories, it is a new addition to the National Taiwan
University (NTU) skyline. According to Physical Education
Associate Professor Li Kun-pei, Taipei residents do not spend
enough time exercising. It was NTU's desire to provide students
and the public with recreational facilities and activities
at a reasonable price. Facilities include the basement 25-meter
swimming pool (NT$1,000 to NT$2,500 per half year), weight
training room (NT$750 to NT$1,250 per half year) and table
tennis room (NT$300 to NT$3,000 per half year). There is a
multi-purpose sports area on the first floor (NT$48,000 to
NT$128,000/day depending on type and date of use). Classrooms
and administrative offices are located on the second floor.
The main stadium can seat up to 5,500 people and also boasts
a 180-meter indoor running track and a giant video screen.
This stadium can be rented for international conferences,
sporting events and performances (NT$160,000 to NT$280,000
per day, depending on type and date of use). --By Priscilla
