An English pub in Taipei - The Pig

By Elizabeth Cheng
Translated by Yvonne Chen

The Pig is a true English pub right down to the decorations. The interior display and the red telephone booth by the door were shipped in from England to create a genuine pub atmosphere and an exotic restaurant ambiance for locals.

The pub's name derives from medieval times, a "pig" being a wine barrel. Since the word "pig" now refers to the animal, pigs and barrels are seen throughout the pub as well as on the sign.

Meals are also offered here. The dishes are inexpensive and served in generous portions. The Seafood Caesar Salad contains a variety of seafood and crisp lettuce. Fish & Chips, a must-have dish in English pubs, comes with a special red wine vinegar sauce that brings out the freshness of the crispy and tender fish and fries.
