This highly-recommended, Japanese-style
cake roll shop is located in a small alley near ZhongShan
MRT Station's Exit 1. From Exit 1, you will see the
Milk King Store in the direction of Alley 4, Lane 8.
Behind this shop, turn left, then right, and the bright-red
shop facade should appear. Shop owner Nick first offered
us a plain fruitcake roll. It tasted natural, with a
rich egg aroma. Nick notes that, although the eggs he
uses are from local country chickens and are not big,
the proportion of egg yolk to egg white is 1:1 -- which
is considered the best ratio for cake baking. There
are 10 different flavors available in this shop, seven
of which were invented by Nick himself. These include
the Plain Cheese Roll, Plain Yoghurt Roll and Tiramisu
Roll, among other mouth-watering and yummy options.
The cakes run NT$70 for a slice with entire cake rolls
priced at NT$350 (advance phone orders are suggested).
The cake rolls are baked daily and, if you take one
home, it is suggested that they be consumed within two
days. Teas, coffees and other light meals are also available.
