Working at The Westin Taipei, Head Chef Sotaro Tomita is in charge at Gion. A polite and friendly chap who always has a smile on his face, Chef Tomita is very serious about the subject of Kaiseki cuisine. He insists that there are no authentic Kaiseki restaurants in Taipei, and that they are hard to find even in Japan. Chef Tomita brings out the simplistic looking "One Soup Three Dishes" set, explaining the basis of Kaiseki cuisine and its origins, and how it is not so easily accepted by most people, hence the consequent development of variations in the cuisine. At Gion, the food is prepared as

Kyoto-style Kaiseki cuisine (NT$1200- NT$3500). There is a sushi bar, teppanyaki bar, snack bar, Western-style VIP rooms and Japanese-style VIP rooms, all serving different styles of authentic Japanese food. The paper screen doors, bamboo fencing, stone paved paths, red lanterns and other traditional shapes and colors all help to create an impression of street scenes in Kyoto. If time permits, you can even take in a movie at the Ta Chien Cinema inside the hotel to complete a perfect evening date!
