Until now, Hsinchu has had few options for hot dog lovers other than convenience stores, which hardly set the bar high in the quality department. Savvy's shakes up the scene with sausages provided by well-known sausage maker Peter O'Brien. Co-owner and popular DJ Severino Soliano notes that the hot dogs are both large (125g) and use less bread-based filler to create quality sausages with over 75 percent meat content. Popular choices include the Spicy Hot Dog + Coke (NT$100), Meat Pies (NT$70) and the Mashed Potato & Gravy (NT$35 a cup). Homesick South Africans will be thrilled to find that in Savvy's, Hsinchu now has a home for Boerewors (NT$110). All dogs are served on buttered buns, lightly toasted and with sesame seeds. Heineken is also available for NT$120 a bottle. Located in the Windance Mall's inner courtyard, Savvy's has outdoor seating. --By Courtney Donovan Smith, translated by Uvia Chang.
