Simple decor and an elegant ambience make Yi Xiang Yuan a quiet and cozy place. Fighting the gradual fusion of Taipei's Hakka cuisine with Szechuan cuisine, which has resulted in the slow disappearance of traditional flavors, Yi Xian Yuan insists on using the finest ingredients and traditional cooking methods to enhance authentic flavors. They use fowl from Hakka villages in north Taiwan, plus freshwater shrimps, eight-month old capons, and black-skinned pig in their Mei Gan Ko Ro (Leaf Mustard With Stewed Pork). Foreigners, especially Japanese, come here a lot.
