Serving
ground tea is a Hakka way of entertaining guests. The original
flavor was salty, but this store offers the more popular
sweet variety. The owner puts all the ingredients on a table,
and slowly teaches guests how to make their own tea. Guests
mix green tea, sesame seeds, and crushed peanuts in a pottery
bowl, adding 25 or so ingredients to produce ground tea
powder. The end result is aromatic, savory ground tea (NT$120
per serving). The store also offers traditional Hakka dishes,
like Marinated Then Roasted Salted Pork (NT$200) and BeiPu
Cold Spring Soaked Chicken (NT$250).
