Silk Road Project & its 10th Anniversary
The Silk Road Project was inspired by a historical trade route with a great vision of the global village. Yo-Yo Ma's The Silk Road Project built a bridge that crossing the generations, the races, the cultures and the arts. In year 2010, Mr. Ma chooses Taichung as the major city of The Silk Road Project 10th anniversary celebration. There will be a concert, a master class and a workshop in this Silk Road festival.
Silk Road Project 10th anniversary celebration in Taichung will be held on April 23 and 24. The music festival will feature three great events including Silk Road Workshop, Silk Road Salon and Silk Road concert.
In the Silk Road Workshop, Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble band members will introduce the ancient instruments that came from Silk Road trade route by playing the instruments with the audiences. In the Silk Road Salon, Taiwan artists and performers and traditional instrument players will be invited to talk about their learning process and working experience with Mr. Ma .
The major event will be the Silk Road Concert at Taichung Fulfillment Amphitheatre on April 24. Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble will perform many musical pieces in this outdoor activity, such as Chinese classic folk songs "Ambush From Ten Sides", "White Snow In The Sunny Spring", "Yanzi". There will be some original compositions from The Silk Road Ensemble members as well. One is "Arabian Waltz" composed by Lebanese musician Rabih Abou-Khalil, and the other is "Shristi" from Indian tabla master Sandeep Das.
Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project not only represents the glory of the great ancient Silk Road, but also originates new ideas for the modern age.
