Taichung is now home to the first stand-alone branch of this famous American family-style restaurant in the world outside of the United States, featuring a bar and seating for 200. With over 500 stores in its home country, Texas Roadhouse is well-known for its wet-aged, hand-cut USDA Choice steaks, fall-off-the-bone ribs, made-from-scratch sides, "Legendary Margaritas", and free and fresh-baked bread, which diners get refills on (together with free garlic flavored peanuts). Among the many steak choices, the Ribeye (NT$1,130 10 oz., NT$1,330 12 oz., includes 2 sides) is the Taiwanese best-seller, while the Sirloin (NT$630 6 oz., NT$800 8 oz., NT$1,090 11 oz.) is tops in America. Four "Texas-Sized Platters" with three main entrees (NT$1,290-2,100) allow three to six diners to enjoy the Award-Winning Ribs (NT$640 half slab, NT$1,080 full slab), fillet steaks and other main entrees in one go, and there are also various burgers, sandwiches, pasta, salads, starters, and desserts. (See "What's Cooking" and "Nightlife" listings for food/drink specials.) --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Anna Yang
