Led by manager Chen Jian-zhi, the staff here has created a whole new vegetarian dining concept that combines food, art, creativity and rare ingredients. That fact that unique ingredients such as flesh of the wax gourd, flowers, truffles and Chinese caterpillar fungus are used in dishes here is proof that the chefs think outside the box. Dim sum items such as the Yu-huang Bun and Spring Rolls are NT$160 to NT$260, while a la carte dishes like Three Cups Mushrooms or Benne and Pine Nuts are NT$260 to NT$680. If you prefer a set meal, Yu Shan Ge offers elaborate, feast-sized, 10-course options (NT$980-4,880). --By Niang Chen, translated by Angel Pu
A. This restaurant's interior decor is attractive and luxurious, with the reflections of glass, mirrors and lighting creating an upscale atmosphere.
B. The fresh, juicy Monkey's Head Mushrooms (NT$480) are pan-fried, grilled and drizzled with some black pepper sauce, cumin sauce, and fresh purple mint flowers--all presented so beautifully that it resembles a piece of art.
C. The crust of the Roast Pork Cake (NT$260) is so tender that it melts in the mouth, and the velvety filling contains mushrooms, chopped bamboo shoots and roast pork paste. The item next to Roast Pork Cake is White Radish Cake (NT$200).
