Hachi Ban, located inside Taichung Central Mall, is a exquisite Japanese eatery that offers a selection of snack-sized dishes. The store is named after a Japanese metro stop that serviced an area where all of the foreign ambassadors to Japan resided. This area was filled with all kinds of architectural styles as a result. The menu here is divided into two categories--traditional Japanese-style cuisine and seasonal dishes. The entire menu gets updated once every season and patrons order items a la carte; prices range from NT$30 to NT$320. A. The Volcanic Explosion Sushi (10 pcs, NT$220) is stuffed with pork chops, lobster salad and cucumbers. Its specially-prepared dressing, made with slightly spicy curry and cheese powder, has a rich and creamy flavor. Another recommended dish is the Tuna Ice Cream (2 scoops, NT$50), which is tuna served with "scoops" of Japanese rice.

B. Longan Milk Tea Ice Cream (NT$20/scoop, NT$50/3 scoops) is made with fresh, all-natural ingredients. Rice & Peanut Milk Ice Cream is another off-the-beat selection to try.
