Quintessential Cantonese dining at Da Da Teahouse

Translated by Yvonne Chen

Although over 20 years old, Da Da Teahouse has experienced a rebirth on Taichung Central mall's 11th floor. Great efforts and money have been spent to create a quintessential Cantonese dining atmosphere. Lighting and space form to create an ancient, Tang Dynasty atmosphere. Wall paintings of ladies in waiting and Chinese calligraphy evoke the Chinese esthetic. The spacious sofas and tables create a striking, comfortable dining area for fashionable tea tasting or dining.

Da Da Teahouse adheres to tradition with the use of the Cantonese "dim sum cart" that bustles by tables to offers customers tasty, steaming hot, amply-filled dishes: intestine noodles, shrimp rolls, turnip cakes, stir-fries, side dishes, and the highly-recommended roasted piglet (NT$380/plate) with crisp skin and tender meat for a fragrant, melt-in-your-mouth taste.

The restaurant now also bustles early in the mornings with the new Cantonese Breakfast Tea, available from 7 to 10 o'clock every morning. All snacks are NT$20 each, including sesame rice balls, crab spawn shumai, cha-su rolls and dozens of other items. Porridge starts at NT$88, with varieties like steamed intestine, Top Scholar, thousand-year egg with meat, and fish fillet. A free morning paper is provided to help patrons prepare for the day.

Tea tasting allows the combined enjoyment of time and tea snacks. With only a NT$20 tea charge per person, a reservation is recommended for lunch. Avoid peak hours to enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea time. Special prices include NT$20 snacks during 2:30-5 p.m. weekday afternoon teatime, NT$30 during lunch hours, and NT$40 for weekend and holiday lunches.

Aside from dim sum, catering service is available for weddings and year-end celebrations. Private rooms adjust to suit any capacity and are equipped with karaoke. The full-course meals come with a rich variety of dishes and a discount.
