This is a small and inconspicuous noodle shop which sells simple dishes like cold noodles, sesame paste noodles, stuffed dumpling noodles, pig blood soup and fish ball soup. With four to five tables on display, it is not easy to judge the volume of customers served. As it gets closer to meal time, the owner is seen setting up more tables while cutting up cucumbers, as customers flow in. The customers vary from working people to bosses who drive Benzes; grandmothers with grandchildren to foreigners. Having existed for 38 years with the second generation running the shop now, Dong Ma's cold noodles are its specialty. Like normal cold noodles which are mixed with sesame, fragrant oil, mustard and garlic paste, Dong Ma has added a special touch to its cold noodles so that it is not oily. Eaten with fresh and juicy cucumbers sliced on the spot and bean sprouts, the taste is light and crispy. Each dish costs between NT$15-35, with the biggest bowl with noodles not amounting to more than NT$40. Recession or no recession, you can definitely count on Dong Ma to fill your bellies with tasty noodles for low cost.
