Kaolin provides a good balance between bottom-end and top-end restaurants,
with a pleasant setting that is big enough to provide some space
between the four teppanyaki cooking islands, which each seat about
11.
Diners can either go for a set meal option or go a la carte, ordering
individual ingredients. For a very reasonable NT$150, one
can get a main ingredient--like haddock fish, beef or pork--together
with vegetables, soup, dessert and a drink. Pricier options
include the Kobe steak (NT$480), New Zealand fillet steak (NT$430),
six kinds of seafood (NT$350) and the chicken steak (NT$220). A
la carte items, from NT$20 to NT$150, include fried eggs, bean sprouts,
clams, tofu and veggies. Kaolin is located about 200 meters
down the road from Grand Formosa Hotel and Taichung Kang Road.
