VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS
The ubiquitous San Shang (Mercury) chain of restaurants has become
a common sight all over Taichung with its distinctive orange signs.
Its rapid growth no doubt comes from its outstanding beef noodles,
which are hard to beat anywhere. Served in solid pottery bowls with
chunky soup spoons, the basic beef noodles come in two sizes, normal
(NT$75) and very big (NT$85). The noodles are the flat, thicker
variety and come with juicy chunks of beef (with very little fat,
for the health-conscious) and an extremely-good broth that alone
has won over many diners. Recently, San Shang has introduced four
special varieties of noodles, including a hand-pulled noodle dish
(NT$85) and pork, steak and seafood types (NT$99). There are other
dishes, like the curry chicken rice, plus a selection of small side
dishes such as tofu strips and vegetables. After you pay, place
the small colored tickets on your table and the waiter will be by
soon with your order. There are outlets all over the place, including
one on Hsueh Shih Road, opposite Chungshan Hall; in the Chungteh
Road Carrefour hypermarket building; near Fengchia University on
Fushing Road near the Fengchia Road intersection; on Hsitun Road
near the Hankou Road intersection, and so on.
