One of Taichung's most enduring nightspot owners, PJ McKenna, has once again expanded his small Soho Street empire with this latest addition, located opposite PJ's Cafe and just a dozen meters from its other sister business, McKenna's Meat & Mash. As its name hints, Soho Street Wine & Jazz Cafe is a departure from PJ's other ventures, focusing exclusively on offering a variety of red and white wines in a slightly more classy-yet-relaxing atmosphere that includes soft lighting, indoor/outdoor seating and all-jazz music. "I wanted to have a place where you could relax, have some wine and listen to jazz music; something casual," says PJ. The wine collection will expand with time and starts from NT$150/glass Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and Australian Chardonnay house wines. Other new and old world wines start from NT$900/bottle, and PJ plans to eventually use the second floor for wine retail. Wine tastings will also be held once a month. Available snacks include raw oysters and bread and cheese. Hungrier patrons can still order full meals from PJ's Cafe, too. Although already "soft-opened", the cafe will have an official opening party on the evening of November 11.
