Far from the bustle of the city, in a mainly Aboriginal part of Kaohsiung County, a new coffeeshop is serving visitors and locals alike. With its rustic decor and sturdy bamboo furniture, Buan Mas Asik Tu Sinpatuhavit fits in well with the surroundings. It's also a great place to lounge and enjoy a drink. Throughout the shop are Aboriginal paintings, carvings and pottery; handicrafts and books can be purchased from a display in the front. In the rear is a tiny museum featuring animal skulls and pelts, plus traditional knives, bags. The menu has a wide choice of coffees, herbal teas, beers and mixed drinks (most priced around NT$120). Right next door is the owners' brothers' restaurant, where rice and noodles dishes can be eaten and lunch boxes purchased. --By Richard Matheson
