Cité Bookstore, which has branches in Taipei and Taichung, has arrived in the south with a new branch close to Kaohsiung's Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center. Unique Café, at the same address, is a small coffee shop where one can sit indoors or outside. The two businesses share a common glass wall and door, allowing customers to roam freely between the two stores. The common wall is also only a partial wall, so the pleasant smells generated by the café gently waft amongst the bookshelves. Cité Bookstore is a very IKEA-esque, modern-looking store. Couches of bright neon hues spice up the browsing areas on the ground and basement floors. Light jazz music plays in the background. The basement also boasts a children's reading corner, complete with munchkin-sized furniture. Only Chinese-language books and magazines are sold here. --By Emi Higashiyama
