       Outside Japan, few countries have embraced manga (comic books) so eagerly as Taiwan. Leisure-Manga, as its name suggests, it dedicated to every facet of manga culture - not only the comic books themselves, of which there is a fine selection, but also to posters, stationery, VCDs and DVDs, computer games, picture books, stickers, badges, baseball caps, and trinkets. This basement store also has a good range of youth-oriented magazines (most in Chinese, some in Japanese, but none in English), while the first and second floors offer Internet access, comics and magazines for browsing, plus fax and photocopying facilities. Customers pay by the hour; food and beverages are extra.
       Given Leisure-Manga’s proximity to the Kaohsiung Train Station and its spotless, bright interior, this looks to be a pleasant place to kill time before a journey. For manga devotees, of course, it could become a Mecca. By Steven Crook
