       "Dalimalao", the seamstress owner of "Sun Tribe Studio", recently transplanted her shop from the urban bustle of Ping Tung to the quiet village of Santimen. She spends most of her time creating elaborate Rukai costumes for ceremonial use, weddings and other proud occasions. Her garments display exceptional handiwork from stitched beads and shell designs to embroidery and lavish metal ornamentation. Custom orders are accepted from all interested shoppers for traditional aboriginal dress (ranging in price from NT$20,000 to NT$60,000 depending on the type of decorative work) or contemporary casual fashion. Casual wear is made from natural fabrics and is hand dyed to suit customers' tastes. Sample swatches and photos are available for choosing. Pillows, textiles, beads, handbags, scarves and accessories are also available, as well as simple snack service. The studio's name literally means "gathering and growing together", a philosophy that's basic to the Rukai peoples. By Karen Schmitt
