J's Institute of Language, teaching
mainly Chinese and Japanese, has recently made major
renovations to their facilities. Classes are small or
on a one-to-one basis, placing emphasis on listening
and speaking. The total immersion method allows students
to learn in an all-Chinese or all-Japanese environment.
During the initial learning stages, no written material
is used, to allow students to get used to listening
and speaking a foreign language. Many Japanese companies'
employees and Japanese language learners have raved
about this method. The institute's owner, who is a linguistic
researcher, claims to have developed this unique teaching
style. Professional Chinese and Japanese teachers use
content from daily life as teaching material, encouraging
students to start speaking a new language faster. "The
absence of written language allows learners to concentrate
on listening and speaking, it also helps eliminate some
learners' fear of Chinese characters." Says Teacher
Wumezawa. Students can select their own learning content,
create schedules to their own convenience and learn
happily in their quiet and comfortable classroom environment.
