For
a number of years, Fu Dog Surf & Dive Shop
has been supplying water-sports enthusiasts with
everything they need to enjoy themselves in the
Kenting area. In addition to providing equipment,
Sammy Hawkins, Fu Dog's American owner, arranges
scuba-diving and surfing lessons with local and
foreign instructors. On the second floor of his
establishment, located at the quieter end of NanWan
Road, Sammy has opened a simple yet comfortable
air-conditioned hostel that can accommodate up
to ten people. Beds here are available at the bargain
price of NT$300 per person per night. There are
hot-water showers, bathrooms, and a refrigerator.
The hostel has so far been used primarily by diving
groups, but it is open to anyone; Sammy plans to
expand it in the near future. Reservations are
advisable for weekdays, and essential for weekends.
