Do you need a place to unwind on the weekends? If you
relish soothing lounge music in a locale with equally-relaxing
decor and ambience, drop by Ladder II, tucked quietly
in an alleyway off of SiWei 2nd Road.
What is a lounge bar without a good selection of libations?
To begin, for those looking to really enjoy an evening
out, the menu at Ladder II lists a plethora of differently
priced single malt whiskeys and other top-notch thirst
quenchers, for sale by the bottle. For those on a smaller
budget, Coors Light is available (NT$100), and other
beers range from NT$100 to NT$200. To order your own
custom-made cocktail, designed to suit your taste, simply
tell the bartender; these tailor-made drinks are NT$250,
but most cocktails average less than that.
Because the menu does not list food items in English,
Cooper, the hip and affable Taiwanese owner who is willing
and able to speak English, is quick to recommend a few
dishes for first-time customers. Tempting any palate,
the Deep Fried Sour and Spicy Chicken is a nicely-done
late-night treat, as is the Deep Fried Bite-Size Pork
(both dishes NT$200). He further suggests the frequently
ordered Japanese-Style Oolong Noodles for NT$120 (FYI:
Ladder II's minimum charge is NT$250).
Although the finger foods and drinks are important
elements of Ladder's appeal, the comfortably cool ambience
is the major draw.
When walking in, you might feel like you are stepping
into a home shopping catalogue display for the stylish
and fashionably urbane. Illuminated by softly diffused
candlelight, L-shaped seating areas beckon to the working-week
weary. With glass-top tables at the center of these
seating areas, groups of friends can enjoy a sense of
seclusion while still being able to observe the whole
establishment. Additionally, the bar, with uniquely
designed padded barstools comfortable in their own right,
provides a more up-front place to mingle. For creating
such a comfortable lounge bar, Cooper deserves your
prompt patronage.
