If being around bikers, Harleys and
typical Americana is your thing; head down to the HD
Bikers Restaurant at the waterfront. The owner, Mr.
Chang, former Secretary of the Taiwan Harley Davidson
Association, is well versed in these motorcycles, which
are the epitome of American freedom and the open road.
His insight, passion and experiences at the Las Vegas
Bikers Rally add to the authenticity of this establishment.
Since he dreams of cruising into the Sturgis Motorcycle
Rally in South Dakota one day, a large photo of Sturgis'
jam-packed main street covers the back wall. Other Harley
paraphernalia and various Americana bedeck the place,
creating a relative feel of a bikers' bar. A collection
of nearly twenty US license plates, images of Harleys
and Indian motorcycles, and photos of James Dean and
Dennis Rodman on their "hogs" all lend to
the unique atmosphere.
Even the outdoor tables are adorned
with pictures of classic Harleys, so while you enjoy
your meal or a beer from their bilingual menu, you are
reminded of the restaurant's theme. The Beef Patty with
Red Wine Sauce is like the meatloaf mom used to make
(NT$180 with fries), and the NT$150 Cheese Bacon Bagel
is worth a try with one of the beers that range between
NT$100-NT$150. You can also mosey up to the recently
renovated dark-wood bar or lounge in the booth seating
upstairs.
If you are a fan of Harley Davidson bikes, you can also
shop for accessories and parts, as well as authentic
HD leather jackets, belts and wallets. Or you can stop
by just to see the attention-drawing Harleys displayed
inside. With only around 200 in Taiwan, in part due
to a 48% tariff, they are hard to come by and help make
this place quite different than any other establishment
in Kaohsiung.
