Loft - the lounge urban moment - is
kind of hard to find. Turn right off HePing Road, just
after it crosses JhongJheng 2nd Road, and go around
the back of President Department store. You'll see a
little park. Lane 56 runs along this park and Loft is
situated on the left. Having just opened it is one of
the most contemporary, stylish and hip establishments
that the city has to offer.
To call Loft a lounge bar does it injustice.
The best way to describe it is to say that it is comfort,
style, funk and possibly even art - all-in-one. Co-owner
Thomas has meticulously designed a space where trendy
customers can get together, have a drink or two and
fully enjoy themselves. The first floor features a well-stocked
bar, including a large selection of wines (from NT$1600
per bottle). Champagnes start from NT$2500 (Moet &
Chandon Brut Imperial) and fine whiskeys start from
NT$250 per glass. Cocktails (including Apple, Melon
and Cherry Martinis) are NT$200 and beers start at NT$180
(imported Belgian beers are available). The rest of
the ground floor is laid out in private areas with comfortable
couches to sink into.
Heading upstairs you'll find more secluded
sitting areas between the ground and upstairs parts,
including a balcony garden. The attention to detail
that has gone into Loft is as evident upstairs as downstairs,
with silk and velvet curtains covering walls and windows
decorated with innovative art. From the kitchen Loft
serves appetisers like Tartari Raw Beef and Hakkaido
Pickle Cold Dressing for a mere NT$250. Their main courses
are equally reasonable, with Veal Fillet, Pork Knuckle
with Sauerkraut and French Baked Raw Oysters going for
NT$350. Vegetarian dishes and salads are available from
NT$200.
Happy to take group bookings, the owners and staff are
friendly and remain true to their basic idea of giving
Kaohsiung a decent spot to enjoy the finer things in
life.
