It's not every day in Taiwan when you come across a restaurant that serves home grown hospitality mixed with a home grown mix of Taiwanese food. From the flavors Penghu to the traditions of the interior mountains, this clean and well-placed restaurant tucked in a characteristically old corner of Sanmin District is a pleasure to visit. Here you can try Hakka-style stir fries of pork and chicken, or pork and shrimp (NT$100). And, of course, there've BBQ pork, chicken and crab all grilled for you in the Penghu style of cooking seafood. There's a hot pot list with the same variety of things like pork, chicken and seafood (large NT$400-500, small NT$300-350). Come and prepare yourself to be toasted by the owner with a glass of Kaoliang or beer, whichever you can handle. This cozy family run restaurant pleases its customers with good-tasting BBQ and also helps the local community by getting involved in nearby charities. --By John Matthews, translated by Monica Lin
