Smokey
Joe Restaurants, designed in Spanish-American mission-style, are
easy to spot. Inside you got James Dean and Norma Jean, sombreros
and pitas, dried Indian corn and lava lamps that conjure images
of a D.I.Y. Restaurant Kit from America's southwest. That's part
of the fun. The other is Tex-Mex food like Macho Nachos (NT$150)
or Smoked Barbecued Pork (NT$180) with coleslaw and fries. But the
ribs are first and foremost. Persons ordering rib platters (NT$320
- 450) should receive warnings along the lines of "This meal
will take a week to eat." Besides San Miquel on tap, there's
a two-and-a-half page menu of cocktails. Despite the capacity for
200+ diners, you'd best go early or you'll be waiting with other
"hungry Joes."
