In Kenting and surrounding areas the name A-Lang is a well-known one. Being a businessman and an avid surfer, this local provides everything fans of the growing sport could want. Imported surf brand clothing, surfing equipment, accommodation and even lessons for grommits.

Located on Kenting's main road, Kenting Surf Shop is also home to A-Lang's Surfing Club. Consisting mainly of young, enthusiastic (and just-plain-happy-to-be-alive-and-surf) local surfers, this club aims to help develop surfing in Taiwan through competitions, surf trips and regular practice. Club members tend to hang around the shop, and are happy to answer questions about surfing and ocean conditions. Don't expect them to give away their secret surf locations though.

The shop itself stocks most imported international brands of surf clothing, including Quicksilver, Reef and O'Neill. From boardshorts (NT$1980) and caps (NT$890) to rash vests (NT$1280) and bags (from NT$600), the variety is huge but costly. Bodyboards start at NT$2500 and a surfboard will set you back NT$18,000. They also stock accessories you'll need, like deckpads (from NT$600), wax (NT$60) and boardbags (from NT$1880). Along with decent English, A-Lang's talents include weaving and his beautiful jewelry and accessories (starting from NT$1000, and not to be mistaken for the mass-produced, brand name accessories also on sale) can be found here or diagonally across the road in their other outlet.

A-Lang's Kenting Surf Shop offers accommodation in the form of seven comfortable and private rooms (includes AC, TV, shower and toilet) upstairs and it is advisable to make reservations far in advance. The accommodation can also include surf trips, complete with transport and equipment. And, finally, they offer surf lessons at NT$1800/person for 3 hours (including equipment and transport).
