VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS Although
the best place to see and sample fresh seafood in the Chiayi area
is Budai on the coast, Chiayi City has recently created an indoor
fish market that has a wet market, coffeeshop, restaurant and karaoke
lounge. Located near the public library and cultural center complex
on JungShiau (Chunghsiao) Road, the Chiayi Tourist Fish Market sports
a huge blue sailfish atop the roof, and offers urban visitors a
taste of fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi. Vendors sell various
fish sauces and cooking spices; there's also a small Japanese-style
sushi bar. Parking nearby is no problem. The choice of seafoods
here is just about as wide as it is at the well-established Budai
market, from huge slices of tuna to smaller and more delicate items.
For visitors, this makes a good stop before heading onto other attractions
in the Chiayi area. --By Dan Bloom
