        A stone's throw from Chiayi Train Station, this new alternative art space and artists' community is well worth visiting if you find yourself in Chiayi with some extra time on your hands. Created by a non-profit association of Chiayi-area artists, with financial help from the city, county and central governments, the Art Site comprises a gallery, a museum, an outdoor art space, a coffee shop, plus a gift shop and art-oriented bookstore. In addition, local artists have set up painting and sculpture studios on the premises of an old railway warehouse, renovated as part of Chiayi's evolving urban design. To reach the Art Site from the front of the train station, take the pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks and turn right. You can't miss it. -- by Dan Bloom
