VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS Although
most people taking the narrow-gauge railway to Alishan from Chiayi's
main railroad station begin their journey in the center of the city,
a new, alternative station has sprung up not far from the city's
Cultural Center, about 10 minutes out of town. Called Pei Men Station,
the quiet neighborhood train station serves the Alishan line only,
and boasts a peaceful urban pocket park for tourists and locals
alike. The new Pei Men Station Park features an old Japanese-era
ticket office, several Aborigine sculptures, vintage steam engines
and great photo opportunities for amateur photographers on their
way to Alishan. So the next time, you plan to visit Alishan by train,
go to Chiayi's alternative station and board the four-car train
at Pei Men Station. A nearby food court and public library and art
galleries provide interesting options while waiting for the long
journey to Alishan. By Dan Bloom
