Curry de Fancy

12-3, SingHua St., Tainan City
Hours:11:30 am-10 pm
Chinese-only menu

A Japanese-style curry house, the new branch of Curry de Fancy is just behind the BeiMen Road shopping district, and targets a younger crowd than the original, family-oriented restaurant on JhongYi Road. Accordingly, prices are cheaper, and the decor is bright and contemporary. There is some outdoor seating on the first floor; the second floor is spacious with ample ambient light from the huge windows. The boss says the Curry Milk Hot Pot (NT$240, including drink and dessert) and Omudan curries (NT$140 to NT$180) are especially popular. All curry dishes have a spiciness rating of one to five (five being the hottest). This writer tried a No. 3, and found it just right. Adding NT$60 gets a soup and a drink; for NT$85, you get soup, drink, salad, and dessert. Fancy de Curry also serves baked lasagna curries and thick noodle curries ranging (NT$140 to NT$180). Juices, teas, coffees, sodas, and beers (Kirin and Taiwan, NT$90 each), together with sandwiches and snacks, round out the menu. --By Richard Matheson, translated by Annie Liu
