If you like simple, tasty Taiwanese cooking, but worry about hygiene conditions, the new Tainan branch of Zhou's Roast Pork Rice will appeal to you. The food is good and inexpensive, and the eatery is spotless. Zhou's have been serving up Roast Pork Rice (NT$50 for a large portion, NT$30 for a small one) on Kaohsiung's SanMin Street since 1970. The menu also has Ground Pork Sauce With Rice (NT$50 or NT$30), and Gravy With Rice (NT$35 or NT$20). There are plenty of marinated sidedishes--eggs, tofu, fish tripe, and fish heads--and vegetables. To wash it all down, there's Miso Soup (NT$10), Fish Tripe Soup (NT$60), plus oyster and clam soups. This eatery is very easy to find, being located just a few meters from the city limits and on the same side of the road as Kuenshan High School.
