Vegetarian restaurants may not offer the absolute cheapest food, but if you want to fill up with something healthy and inexpensive, they're a good option. Located right across the road from the Confucius Temple, and directly beneath the long-established and well-known Narrow Door Coffee Shop, Fu Xin has an extensive menu. Congee and rice dishes are priced from NT$45 to NT$80; vegetarian versions of Kung Pao Chicken and other meat favorites are listed. There are a dozen noodle dishes (NT$45 to NT$65), and soups go for NT$25 to NT$65. Sidedishes of vegetables start from NT$15 -- for NT$30, you can have two curried cucumbers. This eatery is open through the day, but tends to be very quiet outside regular meal times.
