Klin, Tainan's oldest import grocer, has operated on the historic corner of Tainan's FuCian and NanMen Roads for fifty-six years. The wall behind the till displays a cracked and faded black and white photograph of the corner back when the roads were packed gravel and the primary form of transportation was still the bicycle. Ms. Yang, who inherited the store, will tell you proudly of the days when her father would spend his mornings baking bread and delivering it on bicycle to the nearby American Army Club and International Press Agency. Boasting arguably the widest selection of exotic and import groceries in Tainan, Klin is a favourite among local shoppers. In Klin you can purchase everything from SPAM (NT$120 per can) to Yorkshire Pudding Mix (NT$50 per kg) to Smoked Salmon (454g for NT$550). With too many items to list, this author suggests not stopping in to get what you need, but going in to see what you want.
