--By Steven Crook, translated by Annie Liu
From the outside Feng Zhuang Yin Shi Bu resembles
hundreds, if not thousands, of other eateries in Tainan City.
What makes this restaurant special is that it serves more
than a dozen Vietnamese dishes, including Pho Bo (beef noodles,
NT$60); Hu Tieu (seafood noodles, NT$50), Bun Thit Xao (fried
beef served cold with thin rice noodles, NT$50), and Hu Tieu
Xao (fried wide noodles, NT$50). A wide range of soft drinks
is available, including some unusual beverages: bottles of
Vietnamese Soy Milk and small imported cans of Bird's Nest
Drink. Drop by during the day and you'll notice that most
customers are Vietnamese women married to local men, stopping
by to chat with friends and enjoy familiar food. After dark,
the upstairs karaoke parlor gets lively. If you're driving
from Tainan's downtown, Feng Zhuang Yin Shi Bu is on the lefthand
side of the road, just before the Roman Catholic Salesian
Technical School. |
