Run a by a Chiayi native and his Korean wife, Uncle Sam's--which has been open for a little more than two years--is located on a quiet street in the downtown area, within walking distance of the city's main shopping district. For authentic Korean food, this is perhaps your best bet in Chiayi--no doubt the reason why many of the region's Korean expats know and frequent the establishment. The soups here are especially well regarded by regular customers. As you would expect, there is a wide variety of barbecue dishes (chicken, pork, beef, and fish--but no lamb), plus some dishes suitable for vegetarians. Prices for individual items range from around NT$80 to NT$250. Parties of up to 30 people can be accommodated, if reservations are made in advance.
