On a hot summer day, there's nothing more cheerful than a cooling ice cream or ice dessert. The maritime-themed Mer E Gee is popular with students (it's close to several major schools) and locals. The blue-and-white design is simple but intense; the interior is a world full of blues, like an ocean dreamland. You'll be surprised when you open the blue color menu: To go with the ocean theme, each item having an unconventional name. The Tropical Fish (NT$50), the Blue-Eyed Whale (NT$55), the Sea Knight (NT$55), the Coral Reef (NT$55), the Water Clam Fairy (NT$45), the Floating Jellyfish (NT$35)--all are made at Mer E Gee using fresh fruit, soft and delicious legumes, taro and other foods, and accompanied by a choice of ice creams. Thick toasts are also available, with condensed milk, ham, tuna, cheese and other flavors (NT$25 to NT$45). Soft drinks and teas can be ordered.
