The No. Seven 7 restaurant--also known as Epong's after the bubbly, fluent-in- English owner, Epong--is conspicuously clean and neat, and has an attractively relaxing atmosphere. Located on a busy street that doubles as a morning market, this eatery offers indoor seating and a verandah. The food here is renowned among regulars for its home-cooked appeal--the restaurant is in fact an extension of the owner's home. Traditional Taiwanese dishes dominate; the Shrimp & Egg Fried Rice (NT$70) is superb. There are also fish, pork and noodle options (NT$40 to NT$130). Meals, which come with soup and a choice of beverage, are great value. There's also a range of coffees from around the world, many traditional teas, snacks, a very long list of desserts (mainly waffles), yogurts, and even cocktails. So the Westerner is well catered for--something that can be said of few restaurants in this area. --By Dave Thiselton
