Like
the original Cosby Saloon, which dates from the late 1980s,
the new Cosby has a motorcycle theme. Photos of Harley-Davidson
bikes bedeck the walls; staff wear Harley T-shirts. When asked
why, after so many years, the Cosby has expanded, boss Andy
says: "We did it because we found that near here, there
are no good pubs. We want to serve our friends around here,
and we want to welcome all the foreigners coming through." Bigger
than the old establishment, which still does a roaring trade,
the new Cosby has a pool table and foosball in the basement.
The food is just as good here as it is at the original Cosby:
Steaks (NT$290 to NT$420), spaghetti (pork, beef and vegetarian
options), sandwiches, soups including Beef Gumbo (NT$150),
burgers, and salads. One of this writer's favorities is the
Bratwurst Sausage Hot Dog (NT$150). Portions are generous;
if you're not up for a full meal, try one of the "light
bites" such as Spring Rolls. And it's possible to enjoy
a cold one while catching up on work: Cosby II is the first
bar in Tainan to offer patrons wireless Internet access. --By
