Irish-American owner PJ and his little establishment have been a friendly, long-time fixture among Taichung's nightspots. Located at the corner of Da Ye Road and the Soho Street lane, PJ's Cafe offers indoor and outdoor seating, regular sports broadcasts, plenty of drinks, and a menu notable for Tex-Mex food and PJ's pride and joy--the Philly Cheese Steak.

The Spice Shop caused a stir in Taichung's dining scene when it opened years ago as the first Indian restaurant outside of Taipei. Indian owner Fred and his partners have since then expanded to three outlets, including the re-opened Cacti Indian Restaurant (Cun Zhong St. above), drawing good regular crowds of Taiwanese and foreign diners with great, authentic Indian food.

From its dominating presence along Taichung Gang Road, The Splendor Hotel offers a wide range of dining options, including the 11th-floor buffet-style Brasserie; the 12th-floor Night Square Italian-style buffet restaurant and Mistral French Restaurant; and the 15th-floor Splendor Garden Hong Kong-style restaurant. There is also the 12th-floor Catwalk nightclub and Coffee Shop. The hotel's excellent chefs, together with a variety of regular food festivals and other specials, keep diners coming back for more.

This cozy little Thai eatery has moved around Taichung during its years of existence, but has always drawn local and foreign customers with its excellent, authentic-tasting Thai cuisine, offered for very reasonable prices together with friendly, efficient service. Conveniently, Tai Xin Thai is located on Jian Xing Road, within 100 meters of Taichung Gang Road, The Splendor Hotel and Sogo Department Store.
