VISITOR RATINGS & REVIEWS
Over the past few years Danshuei has become a great place
for recreation, and since the opening of the MRT, shops in the Danshuei
area have mushroomed like bamboo sprouts after the rain. Most of
these shops have their own unique style, and many specialize in
ethnic artworks. ¡§Little Africa¡¨ near the Danshuei River is a favorite
among young people. As it name suggests, the shop is full of African
and Native-style folk arts, such as woodcarvings, stone sculptures,
and other cultural artifacts. Catching a new wave of ethnic vogue--a
trend which encompasses the explosion of interest in Taiwanese aboriginal
culture--the store has rarely-seen African figure sculptures, ivory
carvings, wildlife bronzes, insects and animal specimens, plus other
rare items. On weekends and holidays the store gets very crowded,
but be sure to stop by if you get a chance. Africa is not well known
to many Taiwanese, but this place offers an exciting glimpse of
the continent¡¦s cultural treasures and artistic achievements.
