Daiso has over 2,000 branches in Japan, and has achieved rapid growth over the past five years, with yearly revenue reaching¢D20.2 billion. According to the manager of Taiwan operations, Mr. Yoshizumi Koji, Daiso success is due to its philosophy of selling quality products at low prices, which is achieving good response in Japan due to the depressed economy. The same success is also expected in Taiwan. The Kaifeng branch, which opened on Jan 28, is the fifth one in Taiwan. Another Taipei branch is located on NanJing West Road. There are also branches in Taoyuan, Chungli and Tainan. Inside, the store is bright and decorated in simple colors. The staff has undergone intensive training to provide friendly, attentive service. Products include kitchenware, cosmetics and stationery and gift items, all imported from Japan. Prices average only NT$50 per item. In Japan, each store has a selection of 70,000 items. In Taiwan stores, there are only about 1/3 that number. However, there will be new arrivals every month.--By Priscilla Chen
