For the last couple of years, Lava has been one of the trendy hot-spots in the Neo 19 building. Aptly named, "Lava" reflects both the "heat" the night spot generates and its warm, friendly atmosphere, which General Manager Nick sees as central to the club's success. In terms of design, this warm feel is further emphasized by an interior aglow with red lighting.
Amongst clubs in the area, Lava attracts a fairly youthful clientele by spinning popular hip hop sounds. Once or twice a month, foreign DJs fill the floor and an ever-changing selection of parties keeps things fresh--even for the regular crowd. And, with all-you-can-drink Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, there's great value with a good selection of drinks and cocktails available for the NT$600 cover. On Fridays and Saturdays entrance is either NT$700 with one drink, or NT$1,000 with three drinks. Those in a group can book ahead for the VIP rooms (Wed-Thu NT$5,000, Fri/Sat NT$13,000).
As you would expect, Lava's drink menu is extensive, with many quality whiskeys, cognacs, champagnes and spirits, mainly by the bottle. There is also a small selection of wines. However, if you prefer your drink by the glass, a wide selection of shots come at NT$200, and cocktails range from NT$300 to NT$500. We tried Lava specialties Perfume (NT$250) and Chocolate Party (NT$350). The first is a fresh and fruity little number with gin, lemon juice and special Parfait Amour French liqueur. For those really out for a treat, the Chocolate Party is an iced blend of chocolate, Kahlua, Bailey's and fresh milk, topped with cream.
If the munchies hit you after a work-out on the dance floor, there is a food menu with a fair selection of bar snacks (NT$200-350), and a couple of more substantial offerings such as pizza (NT$350). For all information on special events check out the website--the hot stuff keeps on coming.
