When the weekend rolls around on the corner of XinYi and TongHua streets, you'll see a huge line of people waiting to get into Red Carpet, a trendy night club that opened last year. If you follow the stairs down to the basement, you'll be greeted by Simon, who will give you a briefing on how the name "Red Carpet" came about--they hope everyone who visits the club feels like a celebrity walking down their own red carpet.
Red Carpet (RC) has two separate themes within their establishment; one part of the club is decorated with deep red and black elements and plays hip hop. The other section is beige and pumps out electronica. Although RC offers all-you-can-drink deals, Cola, the bartender in the electro tunes area, recommends a couple of his popular cocktails; try Spring (春天) or a Cooling Bomb (清涼炸彈), which is made with peppermint schnapps and Baileys. On Friday and Saturday nights, prepare to see bartenders flaunt their skills in a mixing show; these drink doctors have participated in cocktail competitions all over Taiwan and have often received top honors. After midnight, the hip hop section of RC starts to fill up and the DJ and dancers come out to entertain the crowd.
There are 28 private seating areas at RC, and the cost per night ranges from NT$400 to NT$2,000 per box. Three of these private box areas are actual rooms that can accommodate 10 to 30 guests. These rooms boast karaoke machines and individual stereo systems, so you can really get the party going in the privacy of your own room. The biggest room here costs NT$22,000 per night, and is usually reserved by companies holding parties and other gatherings.
Wednesday nights are ladies nights, so girls get in for free. On Thursdays, there is a cash-raffle. Fridays and Saturdays, called MC Nights, are full blown electro-parties. Any birthday boy/girl who reserves a table for a party also gets a complimentary bottle of champagne. Apart from a good selection of beers and cocktails, you can also order up some night time snacks like stir-fry dishes like Bacon & Cabbage (NT$200) and Spareribs with Plum Sauce (NT$240).
