For some years now, Room 18 has made its name drawing in the young, the beautiful and the wealthy -- though luckily none are a prerequisite for entrance, or a good night!

Located in the Neo 19 building on busy SongShou Rd, the club consists of two rooms; 18 Lover and Room 18. Walk down the stairs into 18 Lover, and you enter a funky blend of chic darkness with red lighting and a stylish garden patio impression. Man-sized plant pots and a trellis-like effect provide the minimalistic decoration and backdrop for plenty of inviting sofas. This is where talk emanates enthusiastically to a soundtrack of pumping electronic dance music.

The drink menu is very spirit-focused, with a good selection of Rum, Tequila, Scotch Blend and Single Malt Whiskeys and Brandy, all sold by the glass or the bottle: Havana 7-year Rum (NT$300/4500), Tequila (NT$200-300/3,500-5,000), 18 yr whiskey (NT$300/5000). Liquers are all priced at NT$200, and the small selection of beers sell at NT$200/250. Wines are sold by the bottle and, rounding off the menu but kicking of the night, are all the classic cocktails (NT$200-350) or the tempting-sounding shooters (NT$250-350). A small, but mouth-watering selection of food is also available.

As the night warms up, squeeze into Room 18 and onto the dance floor, which vibrates with the beat of high-energy hip-hop. Room 18 is only open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday -- but will carry you through until 5 a.m. on those days. Entrance at the weekend is NT$700 and includes two drinks. And Wednesdays? You've guessed it, Ladies Night! Free entrance for women and NT$500 for men, with two drinks included.
