For years, live music fans would flock to Zhongli's Wonderbar or perhaps drop by for a drink at the pub next door, House. The owners of those two pubs, Joe & Ben (hence the J&B), decided to try a new adventure and, together, these two rock 'n' roll fans decided to invade Hsinchu's Lane 18 cafe and pub street.
Taking over the previous location of ICRT, the two owners have created a unique kind of fusion: one part classic rock 'n' roll bar and one part lounge bar. In other words, a comfortable spot with a rock vibe. In the centre is the bar area, which is of the classic sort but with bright red chairs. A solid music collection and two fans behind the bar are there to help you get the best songs for the right mood. Flanking the bar are two comfortable lounge-style sofa-and-curtains areas. Outside are tables to take in the night air and watch the bar-hoppers make their way along Lane 18. Large and small TVs will be bringing live satellite sports in January.

Musicians frequently come by to see the owners, who love their work because of the opportunity it provides for them to enjoy their music on the job. Indeed, one of the owners previously had his own band before realising the obvious financial downside to that profession. Others, attending to their dogs' need for companionship, bring their pets along to play with 'Cai Bo', the frisky and friendly resident canine.
Though not recommended for the canine patrons, bottled beers run at NT$130 and up and cocktails start at NT$160. Food is available, but is ordered in from a nearby restaurant.
If you, or your dog, are fans of good rock music and are looking for a new spot out, drop by J&B and, no doubt, Joe and Ben will have something for you.
